Wij schreven volgende partijen aan met de vraag een resolutie van het World Congress of Ethnic Religions
aan te kaarten in het parlement en het voorstel in een wet te laten gieten:

- Vivant
- PVDA
- SAP
Nadien gaat onze vraag ook nog naar Minister van Justitie Onckelinx waarin wij zullen aandringen op het inschrijven van dit voorstel in onze wetgeving.

Mijnheer de Voorzitter,
De Werkgroep Traditie vzw is een religieuze organisatie in België die de verdediging en uitoefening van de voorchristelijke religie uit onze gebieden nastreeft. Zij is een onderafdeling van de in IJsland, in Engeland en in de Scandinavische landen als religie erkende Asatrú.
De Werkgroep Traditie vzw lag in 1998 mee aan de basis van de oprichting van het World Congress of Ethnic Religions in Vilnius, Litouwen, en was één van de deelnemers aan het World Congress for the Preservation of Religious Diversity (New Delhi, 2001), dat onder leiding van Z.H. de Dalaï Lama gehouden werd. Als bestuurslid van het World Congress of Ethnic Religions heeft de Werkgroep Traditie vzw de ingesloten Resolution about the Law for the State Protection of Ethnic Culture mee ondertekend en hopen dat u, met uw partij, eveneens zult ijveren voor de aanvaarding van deze resolutie in ons land.
Mag ik u vragen welke concrete stappen u hiervoor zult ondernemen?

RESOLUTION ABOUT THE LAW FOR THE STATE PROTECTION OF ETHNIC CULTURE
The value systems of leading modern civilizations, i.e., the so-called global "progress", hallmarked by the satisfaction of the permanently growing needs of mankind, bring the danger of the extinction of various natural resources, existing local cultures and ethnic religions.
As we have endangered species in the natural world, so we have endangered cultures, religions and other forms of human
expression.
It is essential to recognize and maintain the diversity of human civilization in the form of existing local cultures and
ethnic/indigenous religions.
The VI Conference of the World Congress of Ethnic Religions (WCER) urges all governments to follow the example of
Lithuanian law to respect and protect ethnic/indigenous culture and religion as magnificent and substantial parts of
human civilization.
Law on the Principles of State Protection of Ethnic Culture presents the following definition of ethnic culture:
"Ethnic Culture includes the sum total of cultural properties, created by the entire nation (etnos), passed from
generation to generation and constantly renewed, which makes it possible to preserve the national identity and
consciousness and uniqueness of ethnographic regions."
The main attitude of this law is to save the living tradition, which remains as long as the national identity is not
lost. Living tradition of spiritual and material ethnic culture is the transfer of inherited culture, its creation and
revival.
Ethnic culture and its living tradition is an especially sensitive field of spiritual culture. Thus it is important to
safeguard it's free development and correct conception on purpose not to identify ethnic culture only with heritage and
national consciousness only with past - to realize it as the completeness of the past, present and future.

Geachte Heer,
Ik meld u goede ontvangst van uw schrijven over de Werkgroep Traditie vzw, een religieuze vereniging in België die de voorchristelijke religie uit onze gebieden nastreeft.
Ik heb uw brief met de meeste aandacht gelezen.
Persoonlijk ben ik de mening toegedaan dat uw concrete vraag tot aanvaarding van de Resolution about the Lauw for the State Protection of Ethnic Culture beter op Europees niveau zou behandeld worden. Het lijkt me wenselijk om deze zaak aan te kaarten bij de Europese instanties.

Geachte Heer,
Dank u voor uw schrijven van 5 januari 2004 waarin u verwijst naar de
resolutie van het World Congress of Ethnic Religions.
Het Liberaal Appel is voorstander van culturele en religieuze
diversiteit en ijvert er dan ook voor dat iedereen vrij moet zijn de
religie te beleven die hij wenst.
